Hello everyone ! It was just a matter of time until I finally try my hands at a Star Wars fan art. While watching the second season of Mandalorian, I fell in love with the Empire hide out and the elevator in the rock on the volcanic planet Nevarro, so I decided to do my own version of it :)
Everything is rendered in real time in Unreal 4.26. The scene is using a volumetric sky with a dynamic sunlight, but all the other lights are baked. It was nice to try a more complex lighting for once. Even if it could obvioulsy be improved, I definitely learned a lot doing this !
I also wanted to improve my rock sculpting skills, and I can say I'm really proud about how it turned out. The rocks were done in Zbrush, and unwrapped in 3dsmax. They are using a shader with two tiling textures in their 3rd UV channel combined with vertex painting, with on top of that a unique baked normal and AO for each rock, and a RGB mask for dirt and edge wears in the UV1. There is also a top down dirt/sand material applied on top using world space position and they blend with the ground thanks to virtual texturing.
The Empire props are done following a classic mid poly process in max and are textured in Painter. The door is using a process close to the rocks with some small variations.
The wind VFX are coming from the medieval project from Quixel, I just tweaked them a bit to fit my needs.
Thanks a lot for watching and I hope you'll like it !
